Since the 80th Anniversary of National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in 2011, the Orchid Research and Development Centre (ORDC) at NCKU has been organizing a series of events called “The Beauty of Cheng Lan” (成蘭之美), providing the opportunity for the faculty, students & staff to take a breather from their busy schedule, immerse in the elegant beauty of orchids and refine their minds. At the same time, this allows the NCKU to demonstrate its soft power through this interdisciplinary exhibition.
For the NCKU 90th Anniversary celebration, the orchid exhibition echoes and expands the following themes:
“Achieve Securely, Prosper Mutually” and “Orchid aroma”
“Achieve Securely” refers to cultivating oneself and focusing on one’s duties without ostentation while always helping others and serving as a burning candle in the dark
“Prosper Mutually” is a core value that NCKUers have preserved for 90 years, and it has become a great virtue that draws public admiration.
“Orchid aroma” is staying true to these values and passing them on.
The main goal is to create a platform presenting NCKU’s orchid brand image through the fusion of NCKU’s orchid research with the associated industry and creative arts. This extends the orchids’ presence at the exhibit beyond their ornamental value: as a fruit of interdisciplinary knowledge and efforts, and a symbol of humanities and science education, life aesthetics, and environmental sustainability.
