Vision of Sustainable Excellence in the Next Hundred Years

NCKU celebrates its 90th founding anniversary in 2021 with a vision of achieving sustainable excellence in the following hundred years.

No one can say for sure what will become of the world in the future. Amid globalization, with vanishing international boundaries and prompt accessibility to knowledge and information, NCKU envisions its future prospects in pursuit of excellence and public welfare in the world—a mission to accomplish in the following years to come.

Why does it matter to envision? President Su was quoted as saying: “Only after you envision the future can you prepare for it to come true.” Accordingly, NCKU aspires to develop innovative courses with an emphasis on interdisciplinary education, modular course structures, and creative thinking based on its hard power, specifically its academic, research and intellectual resources, to help students cultivate their ability to envision the future.

Though unpredictable, the future promises possibilities. The various projects that NCKU members and alumni have been actively participating in and launching are all part of the collective effort to bring humanity closer to our envisioned future. Notable examples are as follows:
.Alumni Samuel C. C. Ting, Academician of the Academia Sinica, has assisted NASA’s effort on discovering the components of the universe through the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS) project;
.To correspond with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industry 4.0), NCKU has established “Robot Aided Creation and Construction (RAC-Coon)”, a workspace which explores the possibilities of human-machine collaboration through smart construction;
.To better prepare for an imminent geriatric society, NCKU Hospital is taking initiatives to establish a hospital specialized in elderly care;
.To counteract against global warming, the Department of Electrical Engineering is developing state-of-the-art green technology to build a livable city in Shalun Smart Green Energy Science City that is capable of housing 20,000~30,000 residents;
.In response to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) announced by the United Nations, the Coastal Ocean Monitoring Center now monitors the marine environment around the clock and explores the possibilities of its resources.

Over the past 90 years, NCKU members have always been available in critical times. Since the establishment of the school, from the restoration and reconstruction of Taiwan after World War II, the evolution of Taiwan’s economic miracle, to the latest wave of Taiwan’s industrial transformation, we have been working hard to safeguard our country. Nowadays, as NCKU celebrates its founding anniversary, we bravely envision our sustainable development towards excellence and progress with Taiwan, as always.
